Tez, after the latest update, isn’t allowing root and/or custom ROM users from using the app.

Sharing is caring!

I am using Dirty Unicorns 8.1 on my Nexus 6 and after updating the Tez app on April 6th, I can no longer sign-in to my account. I am using Magisk 16.3 and have tried Magisk Hide on Tez. That didn't work. My device is certified and passes SafetyNet. Is anyone else facing the same issue?[Here's a screenshot](https://i.imgur.com/qGXUS9T.png)

Edit: Google might have implemented a different root detection method, preventing the root/custom ROM users from using their service. Perhaps u/topjohnwu might be able to bypass this restriction some day.

For me it was always like this

I haven’t rooted my phone in years, you don’t need to, Nova launcher is better, basically the same thing, except you can’t put 8.0 on the Nexus 4..

That would be safteynet. It blocks rooted or bootloader unlocked devices. Or anything not certified.

Why are people obsessed with Tez. Just install PhonePe or Bhim. Both work on rooted phones.

I don’t understand why Google needs to stop services. The risk is yours and there is no way to hack the servers by having rooted device and steal some money from a bank. This demands some action

Tested it, getting same error as yours on resurrection remix oreo.

It has always been like this for me. Maybe you were spoofing safetynet and it stopped working. Use any other UPI app.

Works fine for me.

You said you pass saftey net, if you’re using magisk I would uninstall the app then reinstall but before opening using magisk hide and select the app. I’ve had issues where I’m certified and clear safety net but forget to hide from Snapchat and then having to do the same thing.

Check Playstore for your device’s certification status. What does it say?

This is why I don’t root my phones now. I’m tired of fighting the app developers and companies. Also this is why I get mad when people suggest an unsuspecting newbie to root to solve some benign problem.

It was giving problem when I rooted my lineageOS. Unrooted it and it started working again.

I think it’s a good thing that Tez stops working in those situations. I wouldn’t want a tempered device to work as my signature. Tez authorises the transaction because of a device I have, and a code I know. The “device I have” should be enforced strictly, and I would be upset if it worked on a device with magisk.

I m using BHIM, it shows that I am on my own as my device is rooted, but atleast it works

Yeah. This started suddenly to me. Magisk 16.0 safety net passed. And hid the app in Magisk hide on stock kernel in LOS. No luck.

Mmm… Are you sure it passes Safetynet?

Did you try Hide Magisk Manager in settings?

I faced the same problem after last update. Started working after uninstalling magisk and re-installing Tez.

But weird thing is that even after uninstallling Magisk, the apps that were granted root still have root access. Any ideas about why that is happening ?

That’s too bad. It’s still working for me on NitrogenOS 8.1. Maybe because I already had it installed and signed in from the last few months? I will be out of luck the next time I flash any other rom.
