ITT: No headphone jack, won’t even consider it.

I wonder what else they will remove nowadays.

Remove cables altogether and force people to use wireless charging.

Or how about sealed sim cards? Can only buy a phone that belongs to a carrier and if you wanna change, tough luck.

Or how about only being able to watch videos if you have wireless headphones connected?

Or how about $1500.- phone that cannot charge unless you are registered to a specific power supplier and use a specific charger?

The possibilities…

I will wait for a review, these “best camera” bullshit always come out underperforming against Apple or Samsung, we shall see.

does it have a headphone jack?

My last phone was a Z3 I really liked it and had it for two years however regardless of how good the camera was it took poor pictures. I know people say you can manually adjust the photos but I didn’t want to do that. I want to point and shoot. My wife’s Galaxy S7 shoots amazing photos. So now I have the S9+ love it.

Pretty impressive specs. It also looks great except for the bezels. This phone with bezels like the S8/9 would be insane.

Android 8.0 and summer 2018? Weren’t Sony supposed to be one of the faster ones to update the software?

Is it a constant 4k or does Sony only reserve it for special apps.

Way too much focus on camera for me I couldn’t care less about the camera. So glad I went with the xz2 compact now.

People really need to get over the no headphone jack thing.

I just wish they didn’t follow Apple with removing the headphone jack and follow the new design language with the bulbous back. Would be a perfect upgrade otherwise.

Looks to be amazing on paper, but the usual Sony complaints from all quarters.

People worried about the lack of OIS and a competent suite of imaging software.

High sensitivity, but will look grainy. But I guess it is better than nothing.

That camera placement…

Maybe in the XZ3/4 the camera will completly switch position with the fingerprint sensor

I’d honestly buy this phone if it had a headphone jack. I just can’t buy a phone that doesn’t have a headphone jack :/

Everything else about this phone is damn legit.

Edit: The battery is also questionable. 4K Screen and only 3500mAh. My current Sony phone is 2900mAh with a 1080p screen and while I do get 4-5 hours of SOT, that’s with screen brightness set 30-35%. But I could live with that but I can’t live without a headphone jack, as I said above.

This just makes me think that Sony wanted to launch a phone MWC, and HAD the dual camera setup ready, but wasn’t confident enough that this would sell, so they launched the half baked XZ2 then.

Nice, but 80mm width and 236g weight is simply uncomfortable.

This might be the Sony’s to get this year!

This is good news regardless of these Sony phones. Their sensors and chips make it into most flagships, e.g, Galaxy S9, HTC U11, iPhone X.

Brag about the camera, don’t provide samples.
At least the numbers are higher, right?!

Call me crazy, but I love the looks of this phone. Oh, Sony, if only you hadn’t ditched the headphone jack 🙁

Man this phone has so much going for it. Lack of headphone jack is a huge blow but I really want to see the photos this thing can produce. And see whether full camera 2 api’s has arrived with it.

ITT: People not getting the significance of this phone in the larger setup. Everyone is complaining about weight, headphone jacks, availability, conditional 4K, and (soon) bezels. No one is getting excited about the fact that Sony figured out a way to mass produce a smartphone camera that can go upto 51200 ISO and is ready to ship it in 2018. You might not buy this phone but you will probably buy one soon that uses a similar envelope pushing camera tech. Oh how we used to get excited about tech on this sub and now it’s just my OEM vs… Read more »

Glad to see sony taking the color+monochrome dual sensor approach. It makes the most sense on paper [since a monochrome sensor behaves like a much larger color sensor once you remove the bayer color filter.](http://www.red.com/learn/red-101/color-monochrome-camera-sensors) I feel like this approach has been unfairly discounted by people due to the few OEMs who tried it dropping the ball in software.

I expect sony to completely botch it though.

Yet somehow it will take pictures that can only just compete with the Galaxy S7

I feel like “to the extreme” would just be putting a cellular SoC inside of a DSLR.

Fast wireless charging too, damn if the Note 9 doesn’t impress me then I’ll probably just go for this.

At 236g, this is not going to be a comfortable phone to use at all. What the heck did they put in this thing?!

I heard you can enable the headphone jack by flashing a different firmware

They should’ve made an Apple move, announce the xz2 line at the same time, release the xz2 compact and the xz2 and set a date for the xz2 premium just like the iPhone X. This is just downright backstabbing there own customers.

This is kind of unrelated but does anyone know why no one bothers to implement Quick Charge 4.0 or 4+ (other than Razer and ZTE I think)?

I dislike the fingerprint scanners on the new XZ2’s. They are placed way too low to reach comfortably.
