It’s a great idea. I almost always have my screen rotation off but whenever I want to rotate it for Android Auto or something it’s a pain to go turn it on. This is the perfect solution

I need this for when I’m laying on my side in bed.

Now if only I could get the ambient display to work in landscape.

Can they please bring back the key board changing navigation bar?

Oh yeah, It’s a nice idea and I’m excited to see a rotation button in navigation bar instead of in notification section but it should be manually so that we can turn it off whenever we wanted.

Here is a link to 9to5 – https://9to5google.com/2018/03/07/android-p-rotation-button-contextual/

Does this allow you to force an app into landscape?

Tinder, for example, is portrait only. It makes typing difficult.

man, Kindle had this for like ages.

never understood why google didn’t adopt it right away.

When the beta program start for my Pixel 2 XL, I’ll use Android P. Can’t be bothered with the manual load up.

>If you tap the button, it then flips the orientation and locks it to that **until you rotate back and tap that suggestion button again** wtf? that has to be the dumbest way they could have done it. i still have to rotate between every press, so if my phone is horizontal and landscape i have to turn it vertical, lock it to portrait, and then turn it horizontal again. if i press the button once i cant just unpress it, but have to rotate and wait for it to reappear this is both more complicated and less capable than… Read more »

Fancy that Google, icons being at the bottom of the screen are more useful than at the top.

I remember someone suggesting this feature in this sub. I bet they’ll love this.

I’ve used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton to make a long press on my app switcher button effectively do this same thing. It’ll be nice to have the option without a third party involved.

One of the only things I currently like in DP1(Along with the animations) I hope by DP3 it gets interesting.

I’m seriously considering flashing the Android P preview *just* for this feature. It’s annoying as hell having to switch autorotation on and off all the time, and it’s just as annoying to keep it on and have accidental rotations.

This is one of my last small complaints about Android. Glad I’m getting P on my first Gen pixel. The other is media volume only control via physical buttons.

The cynic in me knows for sure that this button won’t be there when P releases.

There are apps that do this. I use [Dynamic Rotation Control](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblegumapps.dynamicrotation).

I hope they support substartum theme for overlay. It’s too bad not available in P1.

but will it work for the lock screen?

What happens if we are using hardware navigation keys ? A persistent bubble on display ?

I would much rather see this as a “rotation lock” instead of “rotation suggestion”, basically the opposite. Where I could leave my auto-rotate on, but be able to lock it in place.

this is totally made for browsing in bed

laying on your side, reading vertically, click video, wanna watch in landscape… what do

this is a great solution

This is kind of what I have always wanted. I thought I would be able to do something similar by remapping the Bixby button on the new S9. I always have rotation locked because I find it too sensitive to slight angles or when lazing around the house. I mapped the bx button to toggle auto rotate because that’s the only option that seems to be available. I WANT to have the button FORCE the rotation, basically toggle it in to portrait or in to landscape. But that seems to be missing as a feature at the system level. I… Read more »
