I thought they were going to make Allo the new messaging platform with a web client embedded in gmail etc and kill hangouts. They are so confused.

Isn’t a web messenger somewhat problematic for 2FA?

Has anyone in this thread mentioned Allo in any way yet?

I’m hoping they fixed the bug where not all messages were received? That sure was annoying.

Web chat, you say? Time to ditch Textra.

that supposed to be a good thing? if it’s anything like other web-enabled messagers you wont be able to use it unless you have your phone right there in which case you might as well just use the phone, and google account linking destroyed hangouts for me

Hmm I wonder how Android messages for Web will work. Would you need to be connected to the same wifi on your phone and your computer, or will they use your google account for the linking? In that case your text messages will probably live on google servers.

**Wasn’t there talk of like ‘Use Google Services’? And that would sent the message thru Google servers and then fallback to sms if needed to? Or did that fall thru or was a myth?**

**Can you use Android Messages for Web if it’s not the default on your phone?? Can I keep textra as my default but use AM on my PC?**

>Messages for Web

Dear god please yes.

(INB4 it’s got half the functionality of stuff that’s been available for years, like Pushbullet or MightyText and I have to keep spending ~~$50~~ <$80> a year for something that should have been included for five years)

I’m new to Google Messages, so sorry for potentially stupid question. Is there a way for me to back up my SMS messages through Google Messages or do I have to get a third party app?

Just add web messenger functionality on top of SMS/RCS and get rid of Allo, Google. You have a winner on your hands, recognize it for once. This needless fragmentation is annoying.

I love Android Messages, but I can’t use it until they fix some of the image compression issues. I’m on Pulse right now, which is okay, but I’ll switch back as soon as Android Messages stops compressing every picture I send to <70kb.

The only reason I’m still on Textra is because of the dark theme. As soon as a dark theme is implemented for Messages I will switch over for sure. Maybe a dark theme has already been added?

I still havent got RCS

To bad there is no dark theme. And I can’t take advantage of RCS on my S8. I used to be able to on my Axon 7.
Why do carriers restrict RCS to whatever default messaging app that shipped on my phone

tl;dr only thing new is possibly GIF browser in Messages, independent of keyboard

So can Google force enable RCS via a update?
